Reuse terms
The text, tables, charts and downloads Permit Graph publishes are free to reuse, in journalism or anywhere else, commercially or not, under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license (CC BY 4.0). Attribution means a link to the Permit Graph page the material came from, with the credit line.
The credit line
Source: San Francisco Department of Building Inspection permit data via DataSF, analysis by Permit Graph (permitgraph.org), CC BY 4.0. followed by the page’s address.
Every neighborhood page shows it, and the CSV and JSON downloads carry it on every row and in every file, with the date of the data, so a lifted number still says where it came from.
The data underneath
The permits themselves are the City and County of San Francisco’s, published on DataSF under the Public Domain Dedication and License (PDDL 1.0) with no restrictions: San Francisco Department of Building Inspection permit data via DataSF. The CC BY 4.0 terms apply only to what this site adds: the grouping, the medians, the wording and the charts.
Machine-readable
Each neighborhood page carries schema.org Dataset data with a license property, and the JSON download names the license and the credit line; /llms.txt states the terms for agents. The neighborhood pages; how to read these records.
